Grameenphone Limited (GP) obtained its cellular operator’s license in Bangladesh on November 28, 1996 and launched its services on March 26, 1997. It is a joint venture enterprise between Telenor (55.8%) and Grameen Telecom Corporation (34.2%).The other 10% shares belong to general and institutional investors. Presently, a large number of the country’s population is within the coverage area of the Grameenphone’s network. Today, Grameenphone is the leading and largest mobile telephone service provider in Bangladesh with more than 48.68 million subscribers as of March 2014.
