Tapan Chowdhury is a prominent Industrialist of Bangladesh and leads one of the top Business Houses – SQUARE GROUP. The group is engaged in Pharmaceuticals, Hospitals, Vertically Integrated Textiles, Toiletries, Food & Consumer Products, Organic Tea Plantation, Brokerage houses & Satellite TV Broadcasting having an Annual Turnover in excess of US 1.2 Billion.

During the last Caretaker Government of Bangladesh, Mr Chowdhury was the Adviser (Minister) responsible for the Ministry of Power & Energy, Youth & Sports, Food & Disaster Management and Science & ICT.

Mr. Chowdhury was Immediate Past President of Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) and Former President of The Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), Past President of Bangladesh Employers Federation (BEF), Bangladesh Association of Publicly Listed Companies (BAPLC).

Mr. Chowdhury is Advisor of Bangladesh Association of Pharmaceutical Industries (BAPI), Director of Pioneer Insurance Limited, Board Member of Central Depository of Bangladesh Limited (CDBL), Guardian Life Insurance Limited, Governing Body Member of Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI), Executive Committee Member of International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Core Group Member of The United Forum of Churches of Bangladesh & Vice President of Baptist World Alliance (BWA).

Mr. Chowdhury is a Sponsor Director of the various concerns of Square Group. He is currently the Chairman of Square Textiles Limited and Managing Director of Square Pharmaceutical Ltd. which are among the largest enterprises in their respective sectors in the Country. Both Square Pharmaceuticals Ltd. and Square Textiles Limited are publicly listed companies. Today the market capitalization of Square Pharmaceuticals itself is around U.S $ 2 billion.

Apart from business, he is involved in various philanthropic activities particularly focusing on the sustainable economic and educational development of the under privileged children.

The Government has recognized & awarded him several times as a highest individual taxpayer in the Country. He is a science graduate from The University of Dhaka and has completed different advanced level courses on Business Management & Strategic Planning from U.K.
