Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka (MCCI) and Policy Exchange Bangladesh launched Bangladesh Business Climate Index (BBX)
On 7 October 2021, Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka (MCCI) and Policy Exchange Bangladesh launched Bangladesh Business Climate Index (BBX), the first index from Bangladesh gauging business climate. The index also assesses the strengths and weaknesses in 10 areas concerning the setting up and operation of businesses in Bangladesh across industrial, geographical and business size matrices. The online event was attended by members of the business community, think tanks, academia, and media.
In her welcome remarks, the MCCI President emphasized the importance of business indices and how BBX could help in assessing Bangladesh’s business landscape. She also pointed out the advantage of having a locally-generated index and how useful it could be to businesses.
Mr. Salman Fazlur Rahman, MP, Honb’le Adviser to the HPM on Private Industry and Investment graced the event as the Chief Guest. As Special Guests, Mr. Md. Sirazul Islam, Executive Chairman, BIDA, and Mr. Md. Jashim Uddin, President, FBCCI attended the event while H.E. Mr. ITO Naoki, Ambassador, the Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh attended as the Guest of Honor. Mrs. Rupali Haque Chowdhury, President, FICCI, Mr. Syed Nasim Manzur, Former President, MCCI, Mr. Rizwan Rahman, President, DCCI, and Mr. Abul Kasem Khan, Chairperson, BUILD attended as panelists. Dr. Masrur Reaz, Chairman and CEO, Policy Exchange Bangladesh delivered the keynote presentation. Ms. Nihad Kabir, President, MCCI was the Session Chair. The event came to a close with a vote of thanks from Mr. Anis A. Khan, Senior Vice-President, MCCI.
