MCCI Pays Tribute to Late Samson H. Chowdhury on His Birth Centenary
On 27 September 2025, the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka (MCCI), in collaboration with Bonik Barta, organized a commemorative event marking the Birth Centenary of the late Samson H. Chowdhury, Founder of Square Group and Former President of MCCI. The event was held at the Samson H. Chowdhury Centre, Dhaka Club Limited, and brought together distinguished guests, business leaders, and members of civil society to honor the legacy of one of Bangladesh’s most visionary entrepreneurs.
The program was moderated by Ms. Nihad Kabir, Former President of MCCI, while welcome remarks were delivered by Mr. Kamran T. Rahman, President of MCCI, and Mr. Dewan Hanif Mahmud, Editor and Publisher of Bonik Barta. Mr. Tapan Chowdhury, Managing Director of Square Pharmaceuticals and son of the late Samson H. Chowdhury, along with Ms. Sanchia Chowdhury, his granddaughter, shared heartfelt reminiscences that beautifully honored the life, values, and enduring legacy of the founder of Square Group. Closing remarks were given by Mr. Habibullah N. Karim, Senior Vice President of MCCI.
The event also featured reflections and memories shared by several distinguished personalities, including Mr. Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Former Commerce Minister; Mr. Mahbubur Rahman, President of ICC Bangladesh; Mr. Mohammad Abdul Mazid, Former Chairman of NBR; Mr. Mahfuz Anam, Editor and Publisher of The Daily Star; Mr. A.K. Azad, Managing Director of Ha-Meem Group; Mr. Syed Nasim Manzur, Managing Director of Apex Footwear; and Mr. C.K. Hyder, Former Secretary-General of MCCI.
The evening was further enriched by the presence of eminent personalities such as MCCI Board Members, along with other prominent business leaders, civil society representatives, and government officials.
The program ended with cultural performances, the symbolic lighting of the centenary flame, and a cake-cutting ceremony joined by MCCI leaders and distinguished guests.
